2013 EVENTS

Midweek Mountain bike Madness! - Every Wednesday (after the spring thaw, TBA) - start time may vary seasonally.  Always free of charge.  Riders of all ability levels participate, from beginners to racers.  Everyone is welcome and no rider is left behind.  Northwest Indiana's ever expanding legendary group trail ride!  

Saturday, May 11 - (Community Spotlight) - OTC members & families will be serving as emergency bike repairmen, safety checkers, riding buddies, riding mentors, and providing appropriate encouragement for the 2nd Annual Great Futures Family Bike Ride.  Sponsored by Boys & Girls Club of Porter County, this is a 20-mile "road" ride (shorter distances optional) on the Prairie-Duneland and Iron-Horse paved trails.  Assemble 7:30A in Chesterton.  www.bgcpoco.org  for details.

Monday, May 27 - "MEMORIAL DAY TRAIL RUN XTREME 12K."  Rugged trail running race, starting on the Dark Side featuring creek crossings, climbs, mud, sweat, insects.....everything we love about the Outback Trail.  If you're not gonna run it.....come out and help us keep the athletes on course!  Kid's Mile at 8:15A.  12K at 9:00A.   www.trailrunxtreme.org

Saturday, August 24 - "VALPO NIGHT RIDE" (Community Spotlight).  Join the OTC as we serve as "riding race marshalls" for this fun ROAD event in Valparaiso. Volunteers needed (food & fun are part of the package). www.valpoparks.org for details.....if you cannot volunteer - ride it!  11:00PM (yup PM) start.

Sunday, September 1 - "BLUHM ZOOM" Time Trial MountainBike Race.  All skills, ages, genders.  www.nimbaseries.org 10:00A start.  This twisty, technical single-track in Westville (Bluhm County Park) is both perfect for the Beginner and challenging for the Expert.  Welcome to Rootville!!!  If you cannot race it....volunteer.

Saturday June 23 - Inaugural "LEARN TO RIDE A MOUNTAIN BIKE " day on the freshly re-dressed Beginner Loop in the Front Side.  All are welcome to this FREE event.  OTC members will inspect bikes, provide "tips-of-the-trade" how-to navigate the twists, turns, climbs and drops.....and will serve as tour guides!  Event is aimed at those who always wanted to try the sport, but were afraid to crank!  Or those who are getting serious and are looking for some coaching and encouragement.  Two launch spots - West Trailhead and the FrontSide Drop-in on the Iron-Horse Trail.  Food, fun, prizes. 10:00A until 6:00P.  No Excuses!!!
