Winter Rules
(TRAIL CLOSED TO MOUNTAIN BIKING UNLESS TEMPS BELOW FREEZING & TRAIL IS FROZEN)

It's warming up so the trails are no longer frozen.  They will be a snotty mess so please stay off of them until further notice.

About the Park - Imagination Glen

Imagination Glen is a City park belonging to the city of Portage. It is 258 acres large and is host to a Softball complex, a Soccer Complex, the Steel Wheels BMX track, the Iron horse paved trail, access to Salt Creek for fishing, and over 10 miles of mountain bike trails. This website is dedicated to the mountain bike trails - also known as the "Outback Trail".

All 10 miles of trail are maintained by 100% volunteer labor.   The trail was first created in 1998 and has grown, peice by peice, over the years due to the selfless support of the Trail Commission.   Please visit the History page and see first-hand how much blood, sweat, and beers it took to make Outback the remarkable trail it is today.

About the Rules

Please be aware of the "Trail Conditions" box located in the upper left corner of this website.   Since mountain bike trails are sensitive and sometimes difficult to maintain, we ask that all riders please be aware of the trail conditions and obey requests to stay off the trail or certain sections of the trail when the conditions aren't satisfactory.   Riding on muddy trails for example will create ruts and unnecessary erosion that could take hours for a trained crew to fix.  Remember: 10+ miles of Trail is a lot of ground to cover!

It is STRONGLY recommended that you wear a helmet at all times while riding on the trail.   A decent helmet can be purchased at any department store (Target, Walmart, Dicks) or bicycle shop for $20 or so.   Everyone on the trail wears them, so don't worry about the way it looks.   Several of us have stories and 'scars' on our helmets showing where they've already saved us from injury.   Some of the trails have a high level of difficulty and your personal safety shouldn't be taken lightly.

Need Help?

Click on the "Message Board" button above and register with our Website to post questions or comments about our Trail.  We are always looking for feedback and fresh input so don't be shy.  Feel free to browse the boards and hear what other riders have to say about the trail.
