The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is the ONLY federal funding source for multi-use singletrack trails.

RTP is in grave danger in both chambers of the U.S. Congress. This week, both the House and Senate are expected to vote on their respective transportation bills.

In the Senate, RTP is eliminated, but U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is offering an amendment to restore dedicated funding.

The U.S Forest Service recently announced a new set of rules that will shape the way foresters oversee its lands, including planning for and implementing trails and other recreational facilities. The Department of Agriculture, which oversees the Forest Service, posted the new procedures online today.

This Thursday, the U.S. House Transportation Committee will vote on the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, a bill that eliminates crucial funds for biking and walking.

IMBA has heard that the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is going to be preserved in this bill. However, as a member of the America Bikes Coalition, we are asking our members to take action and help save two very important programs: Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to School.
